Muse, Mikhail Vrubel, 1896

Description of the picture:

Muse – Mikhail Vrubel. 1896. Oil on canvas

The muse of every artist lives in his imagination. Even if the master considers the bearer of his inspiration a real woman, then fantasy still endows the image with fantastic, unrealistic features.

For the master, the muse was always his beloved wife. But on the canvas, the viewer is presented, without a doubt, a fantastic creature. Red hair, large green eyes in which you can drown – everything in the image of a muse is attractive and desirable. The author submitted all of his most secret desires and dreams to the audience.

The heroine’s thin nervous fingers betray vulnerability and creativity. Autumn surroundings of the work emphasizes a certain tragedy of creativity itself, which dooms a person to constant torment and searches for himself."
